Permit Map Reveals Surrounding Floodplain

The diagram above shows the Landfill Completion Plan for the 130 Environmental Park landfill.  The large, blue area surrounding the dump site is the existing floodplain.

So here’s the question:  “What is the rationale for permitting a landfill that would be surrounded not only by a floodplain, but would also be in the direct vicinity of Reservoir 21 Dam and the Carrizo-Wilcox and The Leona Aquifers?

We know that landfills percolate toxic leachate as fluids seep through the waste so placing a landfill at this site that is drenched with water above and below the surface… compounded with the rain events we get in Central Texas, is a disaster waiting to happen!
